42420: Love Where You Live Day

The year 2020 has presented many opportunities for communities to come together like never before and Henderson, KY is no different. Community members have started making masks for hospitals, local businesses have come together to raise money for those workers who have lost their income, and everyday people are looking out for the community’s most vulnerable.

Today Henderson has the unique chance to celebrate 42420: Love Where You Live Day as we recognize the date (4/24/20) that reflects our zip code. Henderson has proven itself to be a place of compassion and a town filled with people who care about their neighbors. Those who live here know how special of place it is, but today is a chance to showcase that to others.

A zip code is a unique numerical code given to each town across the country. It is special to each location. That’s why on this day we want to highlight why Henderson is so unique.

Here are a few fun facts about Henderson to remind us all why the 42420 is a place to celebrate all year long.

• Our L&N Railroad bridge was constructed by engineer George W.G. Ferris, who later invented the Ferris Wheel.
• Henderson is home to the oldest continuously operating tavern in the state of Kentucky, Metzger’s Tavern was founded in 1887.
• Four Kentucky Governors have called Henderson their home; Governor John Young Brown, Governor A.B Chandler, Governor Lazarus Powell, and Governor Augustus Stanley.
• Shortly before WWI, Henderson was home to more millionaires per capita than any other city in the world. But when Great Britain imposed a high tariff on imported tobacco after the war, it wrecked the city’s export market.

Field & Main Bank (formerly Ohio Valley Financial Group) chartered in Henderson in 1934 and we believe in this community. Community is at the heart of everything we do. We are here to strengthen our relationships, support our local businesses, and to give to the community that has so generously given to us.

So, take the time to celebrate our community. Take the day to show others why you Love Where You Live.
