The Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act allocated $349 billion to help small businesses and nonprofits keep workers employed amid the pandemic and economic downturn. This initiative is widely known as the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) and provides 100% federally guaranteed loans to eligible organizations and small businesses.
The Field & Main lending team realized very early that there was an abundance of information circulating and that it was quite overwhelming. Customers and community members had many questions and were curious about how this program could help sustain their businesses. Even amidst uncertainty, we knew that the program would be essential to helping our local businesses and their employees during a very difficult and unprecedented time.

Our lending team collectively spent many late nights researching the program and distilling it down trying to obtain answers. Once details of the program came into focus, the work shifted to ensuring that our customers’ applications were handled with record speed and free from errors.
Fast forward two weeks and there is evidence of non-stop effort from the Field & Main team. We’ve worked together to process nearly 300 SBA-PPP loans for business customers, impacting over 7,500 employees and their families, and ultimately injected nearly $35,000,000 back into our communities.
In many instances, we had customers who banked at multiple banks. They came to Field & Main for help and were impressed by the response. Each customer had the same questions for our lenders.

The answer to that question is the reason we exist. Field & Main exists to extend civic and economic resources to those who need it. To build long-lasting relationships with our clients and colleagues. To simplify the banking experience — and make it personal. It is simply because of our attitude and our deeply rooted desire to help.

There were certainly some businesses that would have closed, had it not been for the Paycheck Protection Program. That is the reason why our lenders stayed up so late each night. We had to get them in, we had to help.”
